ANCHORAGE - A 37-year-old Haines man is dead after becoming pinned beneath his overturned snowmachine.

Alaska State troopers say Rick Markee was snowmachining Saturday night near the Porcupine Trail about 20 miles north of Haines when he lost control of the machine.

He became stuck beneath the snowmachine and suffocated.

Riding companions performed CPR until medics arrived but he was pronounced dead.

The body is being transferred to Anchorage for an autopsy.
