Middle School Partnership Project to increase student success

Posted: Tuesday, May 04, 2010

JUNEAU - The Middle School Partnership Project, sponsored by the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development, RurAL CAP and additional partners, is a new initiative to increase middle school student success.

The program uses community partnerships and volunteerism to engage students in meaningful relationship and skill-building activities.

The statewide Middle School Partnership Project kickoff meeting on March 31 included state leaders, educators, parents, and community members from across the state. Each of the eight participating schools will work with its community to decide its own strategies and actions that will improve student academic achievement, school attendance, sense of belonging, and engagement.

This fall, AmeriCorps members will identify and implement ways to improve student success, using community conversations and involvement of parents, teachers, students and community partners.

The participating schools will then track progress and share news about successful activities via Facebook and on the RurAL CAP web site.
