JUNEAU - The Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals has selected Rod Morrison, principal of George H. Gilson Jr. High School in the Valdez City School District, as the 2010 Alaska Middle School Principal of the Year. Lou Pondolfino, principal of Robert Service High School in the Anchorage School District, was chosen as the 2010 Alaska High School Principal of the Year.
Morrison has been principal at Gilson Jr. High since arriving in Valdez in 2002. He began his career in 1995 as a middle school Earth science teacher in Naches Valley School District in Washington state after receiving his B.A. in social science and history from Central Washington University. Morrison received his M. Ed. in instructional technology in 1997 from City University in Seattle, and his principal endorsement in 2000 from Heritage College.
Pondolfino has served as principal of Robert Service High School in Anchorage since 2004. He began his career as a language arts teacher in the Anchorage School District in 1991 after receiving his B.A. in English literary studies in 1982 from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. Pondolfino received his M.A.T. in teaching in 1991 from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and served as assistant principal of East Anchorage High School from 2001-2004 before becoming principal of Service HS.
