Juneau's Rud posts two hits and a run

Shane Rud went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Juneau-Douglas High School junior varsity baseball team to a 7-0 win over Petersburg on Wednesday at Melvin Park.

Shawn Ibesate singled, doubled and scored two runs for the Crimson Beras, who used a five-run second inning to break the game open.

Juneau-Douglas scored two more insurance runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory.

Buzz Ward earned the start for Juneau-Douglas, striking out six Viking batters in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Zach Gray pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief while Chris Hinkley and Clae Baker each threw one inning of relief.

The four pitchers combined to allow only two base hits.

Justin Falter took the loss for Petersburg, scattering five hits.

The Bears took advantage of three errors by the Vikings.

Juneau-Douglas had five base hits in the game and played flawless defense, not committing a single error.

It was the first baseball game in school history for Petersburg.
