Pending city council approval, Zager will start June 1.

Zager is a former Palmer police chief and has been employed by companies contracted by the Justice and Defense departments to provide training for Iraqi police.

Zager has a master's degree in administration of justice from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

He replaces Dan Hoffman, who retired in March after a 20-year career.
