Gray Hares, Sea Rays claim Juneau Adult Hockey titles

Steve Woods scored two goals and added an assist, as he led the Gray Hares to a 3-2 victory over the Green Hornets in the title game of the Juneau Adult Hockey Association's Tier One tournament that ended April 27 at Treadwell Arena.

Woods scored his first goal with assists from Charlie Davidson and Blake Galvin, then he assisted on a goal by Galvin. Woods closed out the scoring with an assist from Stan Savland. Chip Verelli was the goalkeeper for the Gray Hares.

Dave McKenna scored a goal and had an assist for the Green Hornets. McKenna's goal was assisted by Chris Mertl and Dave Kovach. John Bohan scored on an assist from McKenna. Ben White was in goal for the Green Hornets.

In the Tier Two championship game, Michelle Ridgeway scored the game-winning goal as the Sea Rays beat the Goal Miners 2-1 on April 27.

Ridgeway scored on an assist from Brian Glynn. Mark Heironymus scored an unassisted goal for the Sea Rays, while Robert Lewis played goalie.

Dan Bruce scored the Goal Miners' lone goal of the game, an unassisted tally, while Kevin Dickman was in net.

The two championship games ended the inaugural season for the Juneau Adult Hockey Association, and the league held its post-season banquet on Saturday.

In the Tier One tournament, five of the eight games were decided by one goal and two games went to overtime. The Tier Two tourney had four of six games decided by one goal and two games go to overtime.

The JAHA plans to have two seasons next year, one in the fall and one in the winter.
