UAS to graduate 290 students at Sunday ceremony

The 34th commencement ceremony at the University of Alaska Southeast is at 2 p.m., May 8, at Centennial Hall. Two-hundred-and-ninety graduates have been invited to receive their diplomas, the most ever for a UAS graduation.

The commencement speaker is Michael J. Burns, Alaska Permanent Fund Corp. executive director. Robert C. Janes Sr. will receive the meritorious service award for his involvement in the development of Eaglecrest Ski Area. Linda Rosenthal, violinist and founder of Juneau Jazz and Classics, will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters.

Bartlett to mark National Hospital Week with open house

"A Calling to Care" is the theme for National Hospital Week held May 8 to 14.

The celebration recognizes the work of hospitals and promotes greater awareness in the community through public activities.

Community events at Bartlett Regional Hospital include an open house and health presentations on May 10 and May 12.
