Adak city decision deferred

Posted: Sunday, May 07, 2000

ANCHORAGE - The state Local Boundary Commission has delayed its decision on whether to grant city status to Adak until late this summer.

The commission met in Adak late last month and came away with the conclusion that several key issues were yet to be resolved, according to a news release.

Those issues include pending decisions to be made by Congress, federal agencies and others that would affect Adak's transition from a naval base to an economically viable city, the commission said.

The commission voted to postpone its decision on incorporation until late August. By that date, it said, most of the pending issues should be settled.

Last year Adak voters petitioned the state to form a second-class city government.
