Carole Ann Sims

Former Juneau resident Carole Ann Sims, 64, died April 26, 2003, at the Ganton Countryside Retirement Home in Jackson, Mich.

She was born Sept. 18, 1938, in Jerome, Mich., to William Harold Alley and Louise Mae Taylor. She graduated from North Adams High School in 1958. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force. She married Steven Stuart Sims on Aug. 12, 1958, in Las Vegas, Nev. She moved to Alaska in 1960 with her husband. In 1978, she moved to Juneau and worked as a supply clerk for the departments of DEC and LAW for the State of Alaska. She retired from state service in 1996. In 2002, she was forced to move to Jackson, Mich., to receive kidney dialysis treatments.

Her family said, "She was a very kind and compassionate person who always put others first. She loved to spend countless hours researching her family history." Carole and her mother shared a passion for genealogy. She was a member of the Pioneers of Alaska and the Lions Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her stepdaughter, Kathleen Black of Riverside, Calif.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Paul) Krogstad of Juneau and Gail (Renato) Capistrano of Juneau; stepdaughter, Theresa (Carl) Miller of Morongo Valley, Calif.; granddaughter, Erin Krogstad of Juneau; step-grandchildren, Renee Capistrano of Reno, Nev., Renato C. Capistrano of Guam, Philip Krogstad of Portland, Ore., Michael (Michelle) Miller and Wesley Miller, both of Calif.; sisters, Martha (Chuck) Bowen of Quincy, Mich., Marilyn Sprague of Jackson, Mich.; brothers, Leland (Ina Marie) Alley of Somerset Center, Mich., and Gary Alley of Union City, Tenn.; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and several great-grandchildren.

All family and friends are invited to a service and reception in Juneau at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at St. Brendan's Episcopal Church, 4207 Mendenhall Loop Rd. Interment will be at Alaskan Memorial Park in Juneau.
