JUNEAU - The city has postponed accepting bids for renovating Harborview Elementary School until next week, pending a judge's decision whether to allow the bidding process to proceed.
A contractors association is suing the city over its inclusion of a project labor agreement in the $14 million estimated renovation project at Harborview, which was scheduled to start this summer. The project labor agreement, the contractors association said, gives union contractors an unfair advantage in bidding for the Harborview project.
The bids were originally due today.
On Thursday, lawyers for the contractors association argued for a court order to hold off on allowing the city to accept bids on the project until the case can be heard.
Lawyers for the city and labor unions argued a delay in the construction would be harmful to students of the Juneau School District.
Juneau Superior Court Judge Philip Pallenberg said he would take up the matter today at noon.
