Former Juneau resident Dorothy M. Martin (Hixson) died May 4, 2010, in Anacortes, Wash., after a long illness. She was 69.
Born in 1941 in Juneau, she was raised there until she graduated from Juneau High School with the class of 1958. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1962 and married Duane Collins Martin in 1963 in Portland, Ore. They raised their two sons in Kirkland, Wash.
She was an avid skier, hiker, seamstress and quilter, and she also sailed with her husband and family. She and her husband lived in Egypt, China and Israel during parts of her husband's career.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Helen Hixson, also longtime residents of Juneau.
She is survived by her husband, Collie Martin, of Anacortes, Wash.; sons, Mark Martin, of Bellevue, Wash., and Shawn Martin and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Annabelle, Chase and Beau, of Kirkland; and sisters, Barbara Allen and Christine Hixson, of Bremerton, Wash.
A celebration of life is planned.
