...for supporting youths
On April 14, SAGA hosted the 12th Annual National Youth Service Day in Juneau. One hundred and two youths participated in local service projects. The youth were from Thunder Mountain Youth Academy (35), the high school CHOICE program (50), AmeriCorps members from SAGA's Serve Alaska Youth Corps (17), plus 10 other adult volunteers. With the volunteers assembled in front of the Capitol, the day began with Beverly Ward of ARCO presenting a $9,000 check to SAGA to support youth service. Next, Representative Hudson, Senator Elton, and Lt. Governor Fran Ulmer recognized the youths for their commitment and offered inspirational words for the day. The gathered youths then split into teams and completed important service projects for AWARE, Boy Scouts, St. Vincent de Paul, Parks and Recreation, Litter Free and The Salvation Army. The day concluded with a barbeque celebration at Sandy Beach. We would like to thank; Silverbow, Carrs, Super Bear and McDonalds for generously donating food for the event. Our sincere thanks go out to the participating agencies and all those who made donations to our event; and especially the youth who volunteered their time and energy.

...for AWARE cleanup
Outside spring cleanup is completed at AWARE thanks to students from Thunder Mountain Academy, SAGA and the organization of National Youth Service Day on April 14. It is wonderful to see schools and agencies working together to promote service, cooperation and community.
The survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault which seek safety, advocacy and counseling at AWARE and the staff that work with them would like to thank Paul Berg, Chris Bacehowski, Doug Drixel, Jerry Wade, Erika Horst, Robert Slagle, Zach Young, Troy Anington, Brennon Thomas, Dylan Davis and Lizzie Barrett for their hard work and dedication. By pushing brooms, shoveling gravel, washing windows and cutting down brush you have planted spring in our hearts and spruced up the place besides.

...for new facility
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who came out to celebrate Juneau Youth Services' recent open house and ribbon cutting on April 14. Over 200 members of our community participated in the unveiling of our new residential treatment facility. Many friends helped our organization to make this event a smashing success including those from the Alaska Mental Health Trust, Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Divisions of Juvenile Justice and Family and Youth Services, Juneau Police Department, Juneau School District and many others. Their presence reinforces a commitment to support the mental health needs of Alaska's families.
Lucy Hudson honored Juneau Youth Services by cutting the ceremonial ribbon for the new facility. Thank you Lucy for your support! Representative Bill Hudson also took time from his busy schedule at the Capitol to come out and tour the new facility. It is reassuring to know these folks care about youth and the families of Southeast Alaska.
Providing mental health and residential services to the families and youth of Southeast Alaska has been the mission of Juneau Youth Services for the past 39 years. With the support shown for our new facility, the first on our new campus, we look forward to serving Alaska's families for many years to come. For all who have supported us, thank you.
