Letter made incorrect reference to pipeline supply

JUNEAU - A letter that two U.S. congressmen sent the president of BP Exploration Alaska in January contained an incorrect reference to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.

The letter, sent by Reps. Henry Waxman and Bart Stupak, said the line supplies "more than a quarter of the nation's daily petroleum consumption."

A spokeswoman for the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce said Friday that that percentage is incorrect, and that the correct calculation is 3.6 percent and that a clarification would be posted.
