ANCHORAGE - Sting operations are under way to nab liquor store patrons who buy alcohol for minors.
The sting operations are being conducted at liquor stores across Anchorage and the state.
The operations employ people between 16 and 20 years old who hang outside liquor stores and ask patrons to buy them alcohol.
Meanwhile, agents conducting surveillance catch the transactions on tape and arrest the suspects. If it's their first time, the targets are charged with the misdemeanor crime of furnishing alcohol to minors.
Sgt. Dennis Allen of the Anchorage Police Department said the problem worsens around graduation time.
