Conference for teens will help promote positive change

Posted: Tuesday, May 11, 2010

I am here to tell the teens of Juneau about an opportunity to better their leadership skills. Lead On is gathering teens from all over Alaska to come together and learn about relationships in high school, ending violence, drugs and alcohol and how they affect teens, and supporting social change.

Lead On is a two-and-a-half-day conference in Anchorage where teens learn to promote peace and equality in their communities. We need outstanding teens that want to help better their community and want to grow in their leadership abilities. Teens ages 13-18 are invited. The conference is in October and you are invited to apply to participate.

The conference will be days packed full of fun and educational workshops. Lead On is also bringing inspirational speakers to come and tell you about their experience dealing with identity, preventing violence, and their life experiences. We will be bringing a limited number of students to the conference. There is also an opportunity to apply for scholarships.

If you are interested in learning about healthy relationships, non-violence, culture and identity, then Lead On is for you. For more information, you may obtain an application from your school counselor or download it at http://www.andvsa.org/?pageid=530, or call Kami Moore at 586-6566.

I look forward to getting teens together to create some real change in Alaska. Hope to see you there.
