Sitka: Police seize marijuana, firearms

Posted: Sunday, May 12, 2002

Sitka Police seized a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and two firearms from a home at 3306 Halibut Point Road on Wednesday.

"The firearms were seized because the owner is a convicted felon, and also was convicted of a domestic violence assault in the past," said Chief Bob Gorder.

Police found the materials while serving a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation that began with the seizure of two ounces of cocaine on April 22.

"We're going to aggressively pursue these type of drug cases until we can run every lead and every tip down," Gorder said.

Alaska State Troopers, the Juneau Police Department, a U.S. Postal Inspector and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration are assisting Sitka police with the investigation, which is supported by a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs.
