... for help with scooping

Grateful Dogs of Juneau would like to thank the following citizens for their help in scooping the poop on local trails.

Airport Dike Trail - April 3: Iris Frank, Susan Hoffman, Marty Messick, Sue McGregor, Perry Shipman.

Moraine Trail Parking Lot and Trailheads - April 24: Linda Shipman

Dredge Lake Road Trailhead - April 28: Lacey's mom and Linda Shipman

Airport Dike Trail - May 1: Vicky McLaughlin, Sue McGregor, Iris Frank, Margaret Clement, Perry and Linda Shipman.

A special thanks to Toby, Millie and Sarge's moms, who showed up earlier in the morning and thoroughly cleaned the trail before Grateful Dogs members arrived. Our time spent was short and our trash bags light thanks to you. In addition to these dog moms that come out about once a week to clean up the trail, we've also heard that Soma, Coby and Chloe's humans have been spending time spiffing up the trail too.

We'd like to extend a very special thank you to Andy Nelson and Emiliano Ruiz, owners of the Wee Fishie Shoppe, for donating five professional grade, lightweight pooper scoopers to make our work easier!

If you'd like to contribute to the image of dog owners as good neighbors, please join us for the next Poop Scoop event at 2 p.m., Saturday June 5, at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. More details available at our website. http://www.gratefuldogsofjuneau.org

... for help in fighting abuse

To all the individuals and community organizations that made the National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month rally a success.

In addition, special thanks to: Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Commissioner Joel Gilbertson, Community Leader Dolores Cadiente, Marc Wheeler and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southeast Alaska, Lindsay Clark, Hannah Wilson and Tatianna Sinnhuber (for providing the beautiful music), Cathy Botello and the Juneau Charter School, the CASA's (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and KTOO for the use of their equipment.

Thanks to all the above contributors, and countless others, this year's rally was an overwhelming success. As a community, we can work together to end the scourge of child abuse and neglect. Child abuse is preventable.
