Gravel mining makes way for industrial park

Posted: Tuesday, May 12, 2009

BIRCHWOOD - Eklutna Inc., the Anchorage Native corporation, is laying the groundwork for a 162-acre industrial park in Birchwood.

Eklutna Inc. says gravel on the site just north of Anchorage will be mined over the next three years, helping flatten and clear the land ahead of development.

A railroad spur will be built to allow access to the site. Gravel will be shipped by rail car to a paving operation in South Anchorage.
