Perseverance Trail reopens after work

Posted: Tuesday, May 13, 2008

JUNEAU - Major work is complete on the two-year project to rebuild the historic Perseverance Trail, and the route is once again open to area hikers.

Channel Construction Inc. last week removed landslides and used explosives to destroy two large boulders that fell on the trail last winter. This work is now finished.

Trail Mix Inc., the Juneau-based nonprofit directing the project, will work more on the trail later this summer, including installing a wire safety railing in some areas.

Trail Mix began the Perseverance Trail project two years ago, with major funding provided by the Alaska Trails Initiative and Trail Mix members.

Trail Mix is a partnership of trail enthusiasts, and local, state and federal land management agencies. For more information, or for high-resolution photographs of work on the Perseverance Trail, contact Trail Mix at 790-6406.
