Strong pitching and defense led to victories in four of five games last weekend in Sitka for the Juneau-Douglas High School junior varsity softball team.
On Saturday, the Crimson Bears opened the day's play with an 11-3 loss to Sitka's JV.
Megan Wright went 1-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored, Jennifer Nelson scored and Hailey Pusich had a sacrifice RBI. Defensively, Vika Toetuu made a catch in center field to stop a third-inning rally by Sitka.
Juneau closed out its trip with an 8-3 win over Kodiak.
Megan Mauseth and Kaci Hansen scored two runs each while Nelson and Wright each went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Megan Hart also went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Nelson earned the pitching win after allowing just three hits in four innings.
On Friday, Juneau-Douglas won tight games over Sitka and Ketchikan.
JDHS beat Sitka 1-0 as Kalea Chapman scored in the first inning. Hansen and Wright both doubled while Kyra Uddipa and Sheryce Marshall each recorded hits.
Chapman and Mauseth held Sitka to three hits while Amanda Roemeling preserved the shutout with a catch in right field to stop a sixth-inning threat.
Later that day, JDHS stopped Kayhi 2-1 as Nelson struck out 11 batters and yielded one hit in five innings. Mauseth earned the save by striking out the side in the sixth.
Pusich and Chapman scored runs while Uddipa had an RBI.
On Thursday, JDHS opened play with a 2-1 win over Sitka.
Nelson and Hansen each went 2-for-3 with a double, Gabbie Saldivar had a sacrifice RBI, Hart doubled and scored, Chapman went 1-for-3 and Uddipa hit a triple in the win.
Nelson struck out four batters and allowed six hits in six innings for the win.
Juneau's JV will play Sitka at 4:30 p.m. today at Melvin Park.
