... an invitation
As part of the 50th anniversary year-long celebration, Faith Lutheran Church invites the community to hear visiting Pastor Arthur Puls. He will be preaching the next two Sundays at the church. Pastor Puls served in the Air Force and is a graduate of the Lutheran Seminary in Springfield, Ill. He has spent most of his 40 years of ministry in Southern California.
He was pastor of Christ Lutheran Church and School, 10 miles east of San Diego, before his retirement in 1996. Since then, he and his wife, Gloria, have served in part-time ministry wherever needed. With four sons (two are pastors, one is a psychologist and one a geologist in Qatar) and 11 grandchildren, they enjoy traveling and have already made new friends in Juneau.
Their visit and service to Faith is part of the year long celebration of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod's presence in the community. We welcome everyone to hear his message and celebrate our anniversary with us. Pastor Thomas Bunnett and his wife will be visiting June through August. Tom Bunnett had been pastor at Faith through the building process of the church in the '60s and will enjoy renewing old friendships and making new ones.
... to speakers at prayer day
Many thanks to the organizers and speakers at the National Day of Prayer in front of the Capitol steps at noon Thursday, May 6, 2004. What a sense of confidence we felt to know that our governor and lieutenant governor acknowledge God and our need of and His guidance in all our nation's, state's and personal affairs.
Prayers offered for our schools, prayers for our media, not only for their protection throughout the world, but that they might seek to speak only truth and consider the effect of their words on peoples and nations; prayers for our men and women fighting for freedom for the Iraqis and the eradication of terrorism across the world. What a blessing to experience participation in the prayers of so many people for the issues that are close to our hearts.
The bell choir, "Amazing Grace" played by the bagpipes, the youth singing our National Anthem, "My Country 'Tis of Thee," the beautiful presentation of our flags by the United States Coast Guard, each of these heartfelt offerings of praise to God, stirred our hearts ... thank you so much.
So many thanks also to Holland American Cruise Lines for providing the spacious Grey Line Buses and drivers so that we could get to the event with no problems or hassles. Our local police force directing traffic enabled the whole transportation affair to operate efficiently and well.
It was a wonderful event, well organized, planned ... see you there next year!
