Cruise ship Empress of the North grounding

Passengers of the Cruise Ship Empress of the North being offloaded onto the Coast Guard Cutter Liberty and volunteer civilian vessels after running aground at 2:00 a.m. here today. The Liberty took on 130 of the 248 passengers before offloading them onto the passenger vessel Columbia, which will transport them back to the city of Juneau.

A coast guard J-Hawk helicoptor flies over life rafts in Icy Strait from the cruise ship Empress of the North. The Coast Guard successfully facilitated the evacuation of all 248 passengers from the ship after the ship ran aground early Monday on Hanus Reef in Icy Strait about 15 miles southwest of Juneau, Alaska.
