FAIRBANKS - A woman described by a prosecutor as a "sadistic, monstrous predator" has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the stabbing of a new mother.

Assistant district attorney Joe Dallaire says Jennifer Loving of Fairbanks has a long criminal history and almost no potential for rehabilitation.

The 31-year-old stabbed Jasmine Wells three times during a burglary on Jan. 28, later telling investigators she broke into the woman's apartment "for a rush."

The cuts severed a nerve, vein and artery in Wells' arm.

In court Wednesday, the victim said she feared she would die as blood poured from her arm and she drifted in and out of consciousness.

Wells says she is stuck with a $120,000 hospital bill and her dream of becoming a dentist may be ruined.
