Sunday, May 15

• Hershey's Track and Field Event: The Hershey's Track and Field Youth Program is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship and is sponsored by the Zach Gordon Youth Center. It will take place Sunday, May 15, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Stadium. It's for children ages 9 to 14 and is free. Preregistartion will take place at the Zach Gordon Youth Center or the Parks and Recreation Office through 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Fax registration can be sent to 586-2186 through Saturday at 6 p.m. Late registrations will be accepted between 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the day of the event at Adair-Kennedy.

Thursday, May 19

• JDHS Softball Team Dinner and Auction: The Juneau Douglas High School Softball Team is hosting their annual Spaghetti Feed Dinner and Dessert Auction on Thursday, May 19. It will take place at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. It will be all you can eat with a dessert auction. It will be $7.50 for adulats, $5 for children 6-to-12 and $22.50 for a whole family. Tickets are avbailable from the team or at the door. Come out and support our reigning state champs. Thursday, May 19

• Glacier Swim Club Try-outs: The Glacier Swim Club will offer tryouts for swimmers ages 6-18 years old who can complete 25 yards on their stomach and back. The tryouts will take place Thursday, May 19 at 5:15 p.m. at Augustus Brown Pool. Info: coach Scott Griffith, 523-0840 or on the web at www.gsc-swim.org.

Saturday, May 28

• Seacost Relay Race: This five-person relay race features leags between 3.5 and 5.8 miles long between Mendenhall River School and the Eagle Beach Recreation Area. Road construction activities between Tee Harbor and Amalga Harbor will be postponed on race day. Race entry forms are available at the Nugget Alaskan Outfitter and both locations of the Alaska Club, as well as SERR's website at www.juneau.com/serr. Race entry deadline is Thursday, May 26. A mandatory captain's meeting will be held on Friday, May 27, at 6 p.m. at the Valley Library conference room located in Mendenhall Mall. MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Ultimate Players of Southeast Alaska registration - The Ultimate Players of Southeast Alaska (UPSEA) invites everyone to register for the spring coed hat league. Players of all abilities are welcome. League play begins on Wednesday, May 11, and runs through June. Registration should be completed by May 11 for particpants to compete in the entire season. The cost is $25 and includes game and pickup play twice weekly and an end of season tournament and BBQ. There will also be opportunities to play throughout the summer and fall. • Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation youth outdoor soccer sign-up - Registration continues via fax, mail or walk-in registration at the P&R office, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, May 9 to May 20. Registration forms will also be accepted at the Zach Gordon Youth Center form 11 a.m. to closing through May 20. Forms can be printed off the CBJ Web site, http://www.juneau.org/parksrec, and follow the lings to Youth Sports/Outdoor Soccer, one can be faxed to you or you can pick them up in person at the P&R office. The season will be split into two, 5-week sessions. Players can sign up for one or both sesions. Session I is July 9 to Aug. 6. Session II is Aug. 13 to Sept. 10. • Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Private rental times are available for $25 per hour. Info and scheduling: Zach Gordon Youth Center, 586-2635.

• Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Participants must be able to swim crawlstroke and backstroke. Info: Augustus Brown swim pool, 586-5325.

• Treadwell Arena schedule - The Treadwell Arena will be running four half-day (8 a.m.-noon), week-long summer camps for youth ages 6-12. Available camps: Camp 1, Wacky Treadwell Olympics (June 20-24). Camp 2, Sports Mania, (June 27-July 1). Camp 3 - Survivor Week (July 11-July 15). Camp 4, Explore the Outdoors, (July 18-July 22). Please check our website for more information and registration forms. Summer drop-in activities will be as follows: Drop-in gym - M-F, 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.. Drop-in Floor Hockey/Gym, Monday and Wednesday, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Drop-in Roller Hockey, Tuesday and Thursday, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Schedules for summer drop-in activities are also available on our website. • Juneau Archery Club youth shooting - Archery shooting is held on Friday nights, with sessions at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. • Juneau Community Schools open gyms - Basketball, volleyball and soccer open gyms for adults are available several times a week. Basketball and volleyball open gyms are held Fridays and Sundays from 7-9 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Soccer open gyms are held Sundays from 6:45-8:45 p.m. at Floyd Dryden Middle School. The cost is $5 per session, and 10-session punchcards are available for $40 each. Info: Juneau Community Schools, 463-1717.

• Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. The cost to rent the court is $20 per hour, which must be paid at the time of rental. This is for adult activities only. Info: Juneau Community Schools, 463-1717.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
