JUNEAU - Capital City Fire and Rescue recently named Richard Etheridge as its new fire marshal.
Chief Mike Doyle offered Etheridge the position earlier this week and announced his decision Wednesday.
Etheridge has been acting fire marshal since Randy Waters left the position at the end of January. Etheridge said Waters left for personal reasons and took a position with the fire department in Ketchikan.
Etheridge was a volunteer firefighter with the Glacier fire station from 1992-98. He was hired as a fire inspector in 2002, according to a press release.
Before his time with the fire department, he was a state trooper, the release said.
As fire marshal, Etheridge will be responsible for building inspections, code enforcement and fire investigations. His qualifications include being a certified state police officer, fire investigator and an emergency medical technician, the release said.
