Sereneti Franklin, a senior at Juneau-Douglas High School, was named Juneau Glacier Valley Rotary's "Student of the Month" for April.

Assistant Principal Dale Staley said Franklin was brought to his attention by library staffers Carolyn Fox, Debbie Perkins and Linda Thibodeau.

They said: "Sereneti has long been an enthusiastic library patron and we were delighted when she finally began as a library intern. Her love of books, enthusiastic personality and excellent work ethic make her contributions a joy."

Franklin has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, has received Senior Recognition for yearbook, has lettered in drama, and has received Young Womanhood Recognition.

She also has performed in three spring musicals - "42nd Street," "The King and I," and "Damn Yankees" - and worked on the College Fair. She is in her third year as a teen leader for Postponing Sexual Involvement.

In her spare time, Franklin has volunteered at Helping Hands, the Glory Hole, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Pioneers' Home and Trail Mix.

She has worked as a baby sitter since 1995, and in summer 2001 worked for Auk Nu Tours and Best Western. In summer 2002 she worked for Four Seasons Marine/Orca Point Lodge Crew.

Glacier Valley Rotary Club presented Franklin with a certificate for outstanding achievement, and Alaska Pacific Bank gave her a savings bond.
