...for the food
Boy Scout troops in Juneau spent May 10 conducting a canned food drive to benefit local shelters and food banks. These young men worked hard to provide for the less fortunate of Juneau, including patrons of The Glory Hole. We greatly appreciate the 500 pounds of canned goods we received as a result of this food drive. We distribute an average of 70 food boxes a month to hungry people in Juneau who need help making ends meet. The canned food drive coordinated by local Boy Scouts will help keep our food box program going.

...for the skating support
On behalf of myself, the students and staff at Gastineau Elementary School, we would like to send a big thank you to: the Tlingit-Haida Community Council for helping support our skating week at the Treadwell Arena, the city Parks and Recreation Department for being so flexible with scheduling when we skated at Treadwell Arena, the Juneau Racquet Club for once again helping support our Fit for Life program.
Without such organizations as these, we would not be able to offer as many activities to our students. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

...for the event
Our school held the 11th annual Harborview Fun Run on May 9 and there are many folks who deserve a public thank you. First, I want to thank the many staff members at Harborview School who volunteered to help this community event - Kathi Yanamura, Michele Schindler, Debbie Tillinghast, Marilee Guiher, Darlene Jacobsen, Barb Kreher, Judy Miles, Lisa Oliver, Cyndy Gulyas, Michael Wittig and others. The Harborview PTA, headed by Marna McGonegal's efforts, provided hot dogs, carrots and pretzels for lunch. All teachers helped the students on the event course and playground during lunch.
The following groups donated services, expertise or goods - Fred Meyer gave food, the Department of Transportation blocked off the highway for walkers/runners, the Juneau Parks and Recreation Department did race timing. The Juneau Trolley Car Co. moved kids back to school from the race grounds. JPD officers Brian Hatch and Kevin Fermin helped patrol the course with car and bikes. McDonald's donated juice containers and juice. The post office kindly distributed notices to residents along the route.
Sue Baxter and Luann McVey handed out fluids with many parents at the turn around. Meanwhile Jan Caulfield and M.K. McNaughton did the same at the quarter point.
The following folks provided emergency help during the event - Judy Miles, Tom Gill, Chris Waste and Steve Byers. Many parents also walked or ran with their children and others to encourage and support them.
Thanks to all for helping Harborview's fitness and spirit!
