Hershey's Track and Field Youth Program - The local meet in this national series for athletes ages 9-14 takes place from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park track, next to Floyd Dryden Middle School. There is no entry fee. Pre-register for events by 11 a.m. on Friday, May 14, at the Zach Gordon Youth Center (396 Whittier Street, downtown). Juneau Sports Association - Marlintini's/Coca-Cola Softball Tournament: Registration for this June 4-6 event takes place from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, at Marlintini's Lounge. The entry fee for all divisions is $250 per team. There are three men's divisions and at least one women's division, plus there is a new coed free-for-all division. There are no roster limits and all JSA players are allowed in this round-robin and double-elimination, one-day tournament. Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay registration - Registration is open for this year's event, which will be held on June 19. Applications can be found on the Web at http://www.kcibr.org. Ultimate Players of Southeast Alaska - Hat Tournament: Participants interested in this afternoon of Ultimate Frisbee will place their names in a hat, and teams will be randomly picked. Capital City Soccer League - The men's league implements its player draft this month and all new players and those who played last year need to complete a player agreement and mail it to the CCSL office by June 1. Managers will pick teams in early June using the player agreements. Ultimate Players of Southeast Alaska - UPSEA will host a 4-week-long Ultimate Frisbee learning league for beginners and non-competitive athletes interested in the Frisbee football game. The league will meet at a time TBA on Tuesday nights during June, with skills drills to open each session followed by a scrimmage. The cost is $25 per person. Curtis Menard II Memorial Race and USATF 5K State Championship - This 5-kilometer event, which takes place June 5 in Wasilla, will have prize money of $1,000 for the male and female winners, $500 for each second-place finisher and $250 for each third-place runner (winners must be USATF members to collect). There's also a $1,000 random drawing for anyone who preregisters for the race. Curtis Menard II lived in Juneau when his father, Curt, was a member of the State House and State Senate from Wasilla. Curtis was killed in a plane crash a few years ago. There is a 10K race held in conjunction with this race. Juneau Disc Golf Association registration - The Juneau Disc Golf Association's season has started. The new course is at Aant'iyeik Park, located above Glacier Highway between the Auke Rec turnoff and Lena Loop Road. The next tournament is scheduled for June 5-6. Juneau 4-H Spring Running Club - This program is for runners in grades 1-5, with a separate club for runners in grades 6-8. The club meets at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday at various locations around town through the spring and summer, at least through the Douglas Two-Mile run on July 4. The grades 6-8 running club also will have runs at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the same location as that week's Thursday run. Bring a water bottle and be dressed to run. If you haven't been to one of the weekly runs, please contact the University of Alaska Extension Office to register. Upcoming meeting places are the Riverbend Community School covered play area on May 20, the Wetlands Trail on May 27, the Brotherhood Bridge Trailhead on June 3, Sandy Beach on June 10, Rotary Park on June 17, the Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park track on June 24, and Cope Park on July 1. Local runners John and Jamie Bursell lead the group for grades 1-5, while Craig Farrington leads the middle school group. Parents are encouraged to run with their kids. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 3-7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and 3-9 p.m. on Fridays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
