Juneau resident Mariano Caluza Soriano Sr., 86, died May 12, 2006, in Juneau.

He was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Bauang, La Union, Philippines and was a resident of Juneau for 23 years.
He married on Jan. 18, 1943. His wife, Francisca Quizon Soriano, preceded him in death at the age of 78 on Aug. 4, 2005.
He is survived by his eight children and their spouses, Romulo (Norma) Soriano, Numer Soriano (Snooky Soriano), Mariano Jr. (Maria Teresa) Soriano, Carmelita (Danny) Gaceta, Flor (Joe) Verdadero, Raul (Imelda) Soriano, Land (Rita) Soriano and Rachel (Nick) Paguio; 25 grandchildren, Romel, Rosalie, Jocelyn and Norman Soriano; Mariah Soriano; Kathy, Grace and Mary Ann Soriano; JayR, Francis and Lester Gaceta; Joanne, Jamel, Joyce Anne and J.M. Verdadero; Jasper, Justin, Jarald and Julianne Soriano; Rizza Mae and Rina Lynn Soriano; and Danica, Arielle, Rayna and Roman Paguio; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Femy Yadao; brother, Al Soriano; sister-in-law, Nita Soriano; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A viewing service and novena will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at the Alaskan Memorial Park. A mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Parish at noon on Thursday, May 18. Interment will follow at the Alaskan Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to join the family for a reception at the St. Paul Church Hall after interment.
