Juneau celebrates WalkAmerica Saturday
Sound off on the important issues at
JUNEAU - 2007 WalkAmerica will be held in Juneau at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Alaskan and Proud market. Registration opens at 9 a.m.
WalkAmerica began in 1970 as the country's first and most popular family walking fundraiser. Each year more than 1 million participants join WalkAmerica to help the March of Dimes fund its mission of saving babies from the potentially devastating effects of premature birth, birth defects and other life-threatening illness. The goal of the March of Dimes is to give every baby a healthy start in life.

Tlingit singspirational held at Northern Light
JUNEAU - Northern Light United Church, in cooperation with the Salvation Army, presents "Tlingit Hymn Singspirational" at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Northern Light United Church. The event is part of a conference on Native ministry that weekend.
This is an opportunity for those with an interest in the Tlingit language to share songs and learn new ones - particularly Christmas carols and Easter songs.
Tlingit translations of hymns are traditionally used in Salvation Army and Presbyterian Churches in Southeast Alaska, but the tunes and the phrasing of the Tlingit are being forgotten. This will be a chance to remember some of the songs that might otherwise slip away. Also, there are many hymns that have been translated, but they are printed in the old writing system; so even those who know how to read Tlingit can't read the older text.
Anyone interested in this Singspirational, the Native ministries meeting or related opportunities to work together, call Northern Light United Church at 586-3131.
