Mexican dinner to support families
A Mexican dinner to support families in El Puente, Mexico, is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Saint Ann's Hall at 5th and Harris Street.
Tickets, available at Hearthside Books or at the door, are $14 per person, $25 per couple or $35 for a family.

Run with dogs raises funds
The Gastineau Humane Society will host ``Running With the Pack 2000'' at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Brotherhood Bridge trail. Participants are asked to gather pledges for the run or walk, which takes place either with a dog of their own or from the shelter.
Prizes will be awarded, including a trip for two to Taku Lodge. Registration begins at noon.

Retirement party for JDHS coach Sunday
A retirement party for Leslie Dahl, who is retiring as a coach of the Juneau-Douglas High School Drill/Dance Team, is scheduled at 4 p.m. Sunday at the JDHS commons area. Alumni, friends, relatives and supporters are welcome to attend.

Roadside planters sought by DOT
Individuals and groups interested in planting flowers, scrubs, grass and other greenery along roadsides are being sought by the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
Permits allowing parties to voluntarily maintain a section of ground within a roadside right-of-way are available. Applications for the free permits, which are valid for up to five years, must include a detailed site plan and photographs. No signs or fixed objects are allowed.
