FAIRBANKS - Two people are dead and another person was injured in a three-car collision on Parks Highway.

Alaska State Troopers say 18-year-old Alecia Loraine Phillips of Wasilla was driving a 1992 Pontiac northbound and attempting to pass a Subaru shortly before 9 p.m. Friday night. Phillips' car collided with the Subaru, sending Phillips' car into the path of a Kenworth truck tractor pulling double trailers heading southbound.

Phillips and a passenger in the Pontiac were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru was not injured.

Troopers say alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
