ANCHORAGE - A small plane crashed into Lake Lucille near Wasilla and sank.

Officials with the Matanuska-Susitna Borough say the Piper Comanche apparently blew its engine at about 11:40 a.m. Saturday.

The pilot was the only person on board. He was rescued by local residents with a pontoon boat.

Dennis Brodigan, Emergency Services director for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, says the pilot, who is an employee at the Best Western Lake Lucille Inn, was trying to land at the Wasilla airport when the engine stopped working. He says the borough dive team will remove the plane from the lake.
