ANCHORAGE - An Alaska fugitive sought in a 1996 attempted murder case has been arrested in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania State Police spokeswoman Lt. Myra Taylor confirmed Monday that Adolfo C. Arias, 36, was arrested last week outside a restaurant in Spring Township, Berks County.
Acting on a tip from Alaska law enforcement that Arias would be attending a birthday party, state police in Reading arrested him in the parking lot of a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant at 6 p.m. May 10.
He was taken into custody without incident. The arrest report said state police used its criminal investigation, patrol, fugitive task force and aviation units in the investigation.
Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Anita Shell said Arias was involved in an dispute with another man. He was suspected of waiting in woods outside the victim's home in east Anchorage, then ambushing him.
Shell said the victim was hit five times as he walked from his vehicle to his home.
Arias remains jailed at Berks County Prison. Pennsylvania State Police said he is awaiting extradition to Alaska.
