Sitka in town for four games

Posted: Thursday, May 20, 2004

The Juneau-Douglas High School baseball team hopes to take a commanding lead in the race for a state tourney berth with its home series against Sitka this weekend.

The Crimson Bears (6-2) need to win at least four of their last eight games - all at home - to clinch a berth. They beat the Wolves (5-7) in three of four games at Sitka earlier this month.

The varsity squads will face off at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, and at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.

"Sitka's going to come in here fired up," Juneau coach Jim Ayers said. "They've got a chance to go to state. They're still in the running."

Junior varsity squads open play today at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., with additional games at noon Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Adair-Kennedy.
