U.S. Coast Guardsman Rick Hasenstab holds a young, oil-covered mew gull Monday, as fellow crewmembers on board the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Storis clean it using mild dish soap and warm water. The gull, which died despite crew efforts to clean the sludge from its feet and feathers, brought proof of a Bering Sea oil spill to the U.S. Coast Guard.
