May 17, 2005, passed without incident. You probably didn't even notice the day go by. The interesting thing about that date is: May 17, 2005, is the one-year anniversary of equality in the state of Massachusetts. For one year that state has been issuing marriage licenses to couples regardless of their sexual orientation.
And nothing happened. You didn't know. You were not affected by same-gender couples participating in the rights and responsibilities of this legal union.
In the past year, you were most likely affected by the state of the economy, skyrocketing gas prices, the assault on education, the eroding of civil rights under the guise of "homeland security" or the war in Iraq, all of which are the result of policies initiated by right-wing neo-conservatives who claim to be Christians.
Maybe you are afraid of the wrong people.
