In reading the May 19 letter "Advocacy group 'not worthy' of support" in the May 19 Juneau Empire, I think the letter's author is missing the point. If "the whole truth and nothing but the truth" is important, then an organization who's mission statement is to dispel myths is worthy of support.
For more than 40 years of my life, I have been hearing the pros and cons of a road linking Juneau to the road system. So, my first project after I retired was to become as informed as possible on the issues surrounding the road. I reviewed the state's documents and the documents of organizations opposing the road.
One of the things that became very clear to me was that facts can be contorted and reported in a manner that no longer reflects reality.
Organizations, whether for profit or nonprofit, are going to present the facts in a manner that best represents views of their sponsors.
For many people taking the time to read all the documents related to an issue is not possible. Wouldn't it be nice to have a nonpartisan group that presents the facts in a clear and relevant manor?
