Woman sentenced for trying to rob Fairbanks hotel

FAIRBANKS - A former employee of a Fairbanks hotel has pleaded guilty to trying to rob the place and has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that 39-year-old Tanya Ribich Malcolm pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree attempted robbery and tampering with evidence. Under a plea deal, she received a 13-year sentence with six years suspended.

Prosecutors say Malcolm, armed with a knife, went to the Springhill Suites on Dec. 11 and demanded money. A clerk immediately recognized her as a former co-worker. Authorities say Malcom was unable to get into a cash register, but took a purse belonging to an employee.
