Longtime local resident David K. McRae, 37, died May 18, 2002, in a motorcycle accident in Juneau.
He was born March 25, 1965, in Corning, N.Y. He worked as a carpenter.
His family remembers his generous nature and firm belief in helping people. His response to thanks was always just "pass it on." His family says he was a free spirit who ignored appearances and valued honesty. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his wife and daughter, his family says, and always credited his father as his inspiration for kindness and dedication to family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard A. McRae Jr.
He is survived by his wife Leticia McRae and his daughter Naomi McRae, both of Juneau; his mother Sarah McRae of Juneau; brothers Thomas McRae of Minnesota, William Helms of Juneau, Michael Helms of Juneau, John McRae of Oregon and Guy McRae of Virginia; sisters Barbara Wiley-Carr of Oregon and Mary Miller of Juneau; and many cousins and friends.
A celebration of McRae's life will be held Saturday, May 25, at Auke Rec, beginning at noon. Please bring a dish, flower and a good story to share. Dress code calls for sanctified jeans and T-shirts with words.
The family requests that memorial donations be sent to the David McRae Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank. Call William Helms at 723-4118 for more information.
