Today-Saturday, May 21-22

• Juneau-Douglas High School baseball - The Crimson Bears host the Sitka Wolves in a four-game Region V series and Juneau's first home games of the year. Varsity game times are 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park. There also are junior varsity games at noon on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

• Juneau-Douglas High School softball - The Crimson Bears host the Sitka Wolves in a three-game Region V series that closes out the regular season for Juneau. Varsity game times are 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, with all games at Melvin Park. The junior varsity teams play at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday and at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday, May 22

• Southeast Road Runners club - Douglas Treadwell Ditch Run: Meet at 8:15 a.m. at Sandy Beach for a 9 a.m. race start. The course follows trails from Sandy Beach to the Mount Jumbo Trailhead, then follows the Treadwell Ditch Trail to the snowmachine access trail above Blueberry Hill. • Juneau Freewheelers bicycle club - 40-Kilometer Individual Time Trial: Meet at 9 a.m. on the North Douglas side of the Douglas Bridge for a 10 a.m. race start. Event is 40 kilometers (about 24 miles) against the clock, with racers starting out at different times. Several Juneau Freewheelers events have shorter sport-division races. • Juneau Yacht Club-Sailing Squadron - Spring Harbor Races, Round Three: Racing takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Juneau Harbor Turning Basin. Info: JYC-SS Fleet Captain McKie Campbell, 586-5856, or JYC Commodore Del Carnes, 789-7301.

Sunday, May 23

• Southeast Road Runners club - Kids' Rotary Park Run: This event is for ages 2-16. Registration is at 11:15 a.m. at Rotary Park with a noon start. • Rock Dump indoor climbing competition - This event takes place at 5 p.m. at the Rock Dump Indoor Climbing Gym, 1310 Eastaugh Way, near Alaska Marine Lines and Alaska Litho. There is no entry fee for Rock Dump members, and a $5 entry fee for non-members. There are prizes for the top finishers in each division, and door prizes. The skill level is 5.10/5.11. • Harborview Elementary School fun run - The Department of Transportation will close off Glacier Highway from the Breakwater Hotel to the dead end from 9:30 a.m. until noon on Friday, May 21, for this event involving about 500 students and adults. Info: Dave Haas at Harborview, 463-1875.

• Juneau Youth Football League cheerleading clinic - This clinic takes place on Saturday, May 22, at the Riverbend Community School gym and costs $20. Session One is for grades K-3, with registration at 8:30 a.m., the clinic from 9 a.m. to noon and a noon show. Session Two is for grades 4-12, with registration at 12:30 p.m., the clinic from 1-4 p.m. and a show at 4 p.m. Cheerleaders should wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes and no jewelry. • Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay registration - Registration is open for this year's event, which will be held on June 19. Applications can be found on the Web at Early registration lasts through May 21. Fees vary, depending on race division. Info: KCIBR, 1-867-633-2579.

• Juneau Youth Football League registration - Sign-up for the 2004 JYFL football and cheerleading programs takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, at the Nugget Mall. Lower division tryouts begin July 31 with games starting Aug. 21. Info: JYFL Hotline, 463-3001.



• Youth open gyms - Meet from 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Youth open gyms are free for students in grades 5-12. Info: Community schools director Joyce Kitka, 463-1700, Ext. 327.

• Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms - Meet from 7-9 p.m. on Fridays and from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Cost is $4 and open gym is limited to adults (age 18-older) only. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, Ext. 325.

• Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 3-7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and 3-9 p.m. on Fridays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. • Adult indoor soccer open gyms - Sessions are held from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays and most Fridays at Floyd Dryden Middle School. Check for updated schedules. Open to players 18 and older; cost is $5 per session. Contact: Pat Race, 586-3440.

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
