Potential calamity was made an adventure

Posted: Monday, May 21, 2007

We want to commend and thank all the people who helped us after the grounding of the Empress of the North on May 14. All of the passengers we talked with had nothing but praise for the captain and crew of the Empress, the Coast Guard, all the other rescue vessels, as well as the passengers and crew of the ferry Columbia. They made this an adventure instead of a calamity and made us all want to return to Alaska to complete our vacation.

Sound off on the important issues at

We also appreciated the Red Cross, Baranof Hotel and all the other Juneau citizens who greeted and treated us at docking and at Centennial Hall. That meal was fabulous.

We don't even know who all was involved in the hospitality we received, so thanks to anyone we may have left out.

We will be back.
