ANCHORAGE - The man who assaulted the winner of Alaska's biggest lottery has been sentenced to three years in prison.
In a deal with prosecutors, 20-year-old Brandon Hughes on Monday pleaded guilty to assault. He was convicted of striking Alec Ahsoak with a rod or metal pipe.
Ahsoak is a convicted sex offender who in January won a $500,000 jackpot in a lottery that benefited the advocacy group Standing Together Against Rape.
After taxes, Ahsoak received about $350,000. The charity group received about $11,000.
Authorities say Hughes knew a relative of one or more of Ahsoak's sexual abuse victims. He is from the Los Angeles area.
