Former Juneau resident Alfred "Big Al" Edward Stoinich, 82, died April 29, 2005, in Tierra del Mar, Ore.
He was born to Mark and Mary Stoinich, Nov. 27, 1922, in Butte, Mont. He joined the Navy and served his country for three years honorably. He was a computer programmer for the City of Juneau until he retired. After moving to Tillamook County, Ore., he taught computer sciences for 10 years at Tillamook Bay Community College. He was a 58-year member of the Elks Lodge and the Monday Music Association.
He enjoyed reading, music and everything to do with baseball. His friends and family said he will be remembered for "his use of colorful language while talking with his family and watching baseball on television."
He is survived by his children Scooter Edge, Mark Stoinich, Tony Stoinich and Britten Deman of Juneau, and Mick Stoinich of Seattle; his grandchildren Alasa, Amanda, Brandon and Connor of Juneau, Kris Siler of Tierra del Mar and Alicia Siler; his great-granddaughters Lauren and Alex Siler of Tierra del Mar; his sisters Stephanie Marker and Angela Matelich of Montana; and companion, Susie, his dog.
At his request, no services will be held. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Heart Foundation.
