JUNEAU - Negotiators for two unions representing ferry workers tentatively have accepted the state's offer for new one-year contracts.
Bargaining units for the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association District No. 1 and the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots, Pacific Maritime Region, unanimously accepted the offer, which increases the state's contribution toward health benefits from $630 to $705 per month. Don Kubley, a lobbyist for the groups, said the membership will vote on the contracts in the next few weeks.
MEBA's bargaining unit counts about 105 members in Southeast Alaska and southern Seattle. Masters, Mates and Pilots has 80 members, spread out over Southeast and Seattle.
