JUNEAU - As state, federal and city offices and many private businesses close for the Memorial Day holiday, two local organizations will hold ceremonies to honor veterans.
The American Legion, an organization made up of veterans who enlisted in the armed forces during a declared conflict, but who did not all serve in the country of conflict, will hold a service at 11 a.m. Monday at Alaska Memorial Park on Riverside Drive.
The ceremony will consist a short tribute to veterans who have died, and the placement of wreaths by the American flag.
At the same time, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, an organization made up of armed service members who served in a country of conflict, will hold a similar ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery. After the ceremony, a chili feed will be held at noon at the VFW building in downtown Juneau.
