SOLDOTNA - The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly, following the lead of dozens of municipalities around the country, has passed a resolution urging national leaders to review anti-terrorism laws many say violate constitutional freedoms. The vote was unanimous.
Juneau approved a similar resolution, as did the Alaska Legislature recently.
The USA Patriot Act drew particular focus in the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
The assembly resolution affirms the borough's strong opposition to terrorism, but also strongly affirmed "that efforts to end terrorism should not be waged at the expense of the inalienable rights, fundamental civil rights and civil liberties of the people of the Kenai Peninsula Borough."
