Katy Goodell, as part of her eighth grade Rights Of Passage Experience project at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, swam from the avalanche area on Thane Road across the Gastineau Channel to Sandy Beach where she was greeted by friends from Glacier Valley Swim Club, classmates teachers and family. The ropes project is an annual tradition held at Dzantik'i Heeni that encourages students to take healthy risks, stretch themselves and grow as individuals. Students completed a wide variety of individual projects. The culmination of the ROPES projects involved student presentations of completed projects in front of adult panelists on May 17 and 18 at the University of Alaska Southeast.
