Fire extinguisher leads to school evacuation

JUNEAU - Students at Juneau-Douglas High School had to be evacuated Wednesday after an apparent prank led to a fire alarm going off.

Assistant Principal Dale Staley said someone sprayed the high school auditorium with a fire extinguisher, which activated the school's fire alarm.

Staley said he doesn't know who was responsible. But a student who pulled a fire alarm earlier this month had been caught, he said.

On the JDHS Web site, students are warned that they will be "arrested, charged with a felony, assigned a probation officer and will face time in jail" if caught pulling a fire alarm or setting off a fire extinguisher.

The JDHS orchestra was scheduled to use the auditorium Thursday night for a concert and fundraiser but was relocated to the school's commons while the auditorium was cleaned of the foam from the fire extinguisher, Staley said.

The Web site also said that there are "rumors around school of a senior skip day" today and a "senior keg party." Staley said that the recent graffiti of the letters "SKP" on Egan Drive in front of the high school, may be an advertisement for a senior keg party.

The Web site says that students who are caught drinking will be turned into police and won't be able to participate in graduation ceremonies.
