Glacier center to offer kids' programs

The weekly ``Kids Days Programs'' at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center are scheduled to begin June 3 with a presentation by U.S. Forest Service naturalist Mary Knetter called ``Whose Track is That?''

The program, aimed at children ages 7 to 12 (younger children may come with their parents), focuses on identifying wildlife tracks and making a plaster model of a track to take home. Children should be dressed appropriately.

The program is from 11 a.m. to noon and meets at the Covered Viewing Area.

For more information about the programs call 789-6640.

Agency issues seal pup warning

The National Marine Fisheries Service is asking residents not to touch or approach seal pups, noting that mid-May to mid-June is the peak time for birthings in the state.

Seal pups are frequently found alone on beaches and may appear abandoned, but the mother is most likely sea feeding and will return to her pup, according to the agency.

Harassing a pup or other marine mammal is a violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and can result in a fine of up to $10,000.

To report circumstances that appear in need of attention, call the agency at 586-7235.

Recruiting station offers voter registration
